Ramanujan shares a name with legendary indian mathematical prodigy Srīnivāsa Rāmānujan (1887-1920) who was a self-taught isolated mathematician who re-discovered known theorems in addition to producing new work.
He made extraordinary contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions. There is even a mathematical journal, The Ramanujan Journal, dedicated solely to the discoveries made by Ramanujan. He died at the age of 32, having made remarkable breakthroughs in his short career.
